2025 Timber Harvest Underway in the Ganaraska Forest
With the start of timber harvest season in the Ganaraska Forest, the GRCA would like to remind Forest users to exercise caution and yield the right-of-way to logging equipment during timber harvest operations. Operations will take place across the West Forest, including a combination of selective thinning and final removals, remaining active until approximately February 28, 2026.
For planned harvest locations and important safety information, please read the full release on the GRCA website.
Halloween Pumpkin Reminder
Please Don’t Let Your Pumpkin(s) Haunt Natural Areas
With Halloween on the way, please remember to compost your pumpkin or consider donating them at the request of a local farm or organization. Many communities also have ‘pumpkin parades,’ where pumpkins are gathered for distribution to local farms.
Disposing of pumpkins and other vegetation in natural areas can be harmful to local wildlife, while also presenting the risk of introducing a potentially invasive species or pathogen into the local ecosystem.
TRAIL MAINTENANCE: Central Ganaraska Forest
Orange B Loop, in the Central Ganaraska Forest, will be closed for trail improvements from late Oct. to early Nov. 2025.
Heavy equipment will be completing work on the trail during this time period and users are asked to exercise caution near the start and end of Orange B Loop, where closure of the Orange Trail will also be necessary at times. Please avoid this area, where possible, while providing ample room and right of way to heavy equipment, if encountered.
