Ganaraska Conservation is committed to providing our users with information and services in a manner that respects and protects their privacy. This page summarizes the privacy practices for use of the Ganaraska Conservation website, as well as in-person.

Use of Personal Information

Ganaraska Conservation will only gather personal information when supplied voluntarily. Any personal information you do provide is managed according to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M.56 and is strictly confidential.

We may collect personal information like email addresses for registration on our mailing lists or for participation in a contest, survey, promotion, advice on future events, volunteering, or special offers. Personal information may also be requested for purposes of online purchases or donations to Ganaraska Conservation through secure forms that use industry standard encryption technology.

The personal information will be used only for the purposes identified. We discourage you from sending any sensitive or personal financial information, such as credit card information, via a regular email.

Site Traffic Monitoring

During every visit to our website, we will collect non-identifiable information by tracking Internet Protocol (IP) addresses on an aggregate basis. IP addresses do not track personal information about you but do allow us to monitor how our website is being used. This information is shared with our website providers / host to assist us in improving our website.

Cookies

This site uses session-based cookies that are created when you visit our site and last only during your visit. This generic session information is collected in a non-identifiable form to provide us with statistical information on pages visited.

Our Newsletter and Notices Services

When you subscribe, you authorize us to send you an email newsletter or notice from time to time. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email. We comply with Canada's Anti-spam Law (CASL).

Google Analytics

Ganaraska Conservation Online Store

Users looking to visit the Ganaraska Forest are required to purchase and maintain a Ganaraska Forest Membership or Day Pass. The information collected during registration on the Ganaraska Conservation Online Store is used for billing purposes, as well as future contact and highway vehicle parking while at the Ganaraska Forest.

Member information is retained as long as the user chooses to be a member in good standing. Day Pass users are automatically removed from the store system, approximately 24-hours following registration. The store retains record of the transaction but removes all personal / contact details for the individual user.

The GRCA does not sell or share user information with anyone. Other sections of this document also apply.

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)

The Conservation Authority has a number of cameras installed at our two office locations, conservation areas and forest trails:

  • GRCA Administration Office - Located at 2216 County Road 28 in Port Hope.
  • Ganaraska Forest Centre (GFC) - Located at 10585 Cold Springs Camp Road in Campbellcroft.
  • Ganaraska Forest – Located within Port Hope, Clarington, City of Kawartha Lakes, and Cavan Monaghan.
  • Conservation Areas – Sylvan Glen CA, Millennium CA, Ball’s Mill CA, Thurne Parks CA, Cobourg CA, Garden Hill CA, Rice Lake CA and Richardson’s Lookout.

Under MFIPPA, the Conservation Authority has the legal authority to collect personal information as we deem it necessary to the proper administration of these offices and areas, as it relates to the safe and secure operation of the building, trails, areas and the occupants.

Video surveillance records shall only be used for the purposes of:

  • Detecting, deterring, and investigating unlawful activity, which includes possible contraventions of any federal or provincial law, or municipal by-laws.
  • Investigating and resolving personal injury, damage to assets, and other legal claims.
  • Investigating and resolving public complaints received by the GRCA, including requests made through Municipal Freedom of Information.
